Google introduces health platform: Google Fit
Last night at Google I/O, the annual developer conference, Google announced a new health platform, much like Apple’s HealthKit, called Google Fit.
The platform was launched alongside new APIs for developers to use to make existing and future apps and wearable health trackers to work with the Fit system.
Companies that have already signed up include Withings, Basis, Adidas and even Nike, who are expected to be heavily involved with the Apple iWatch, but are still making Fuel data available within Google Fit.
Google Fit is set to make digital health less siloed, as HealthKit will also do, however it’s unclear yet whether people are willing to give up their most personal of data to companies like Google.
The Google Fit SDK will be available this autumn. You can sign up here to be notified when it’s out.
