Understanding Arthritis – The types and the remedies [infographic]

As anybody who suffers from arthritis will tell you, it is one of the most painful conditions in humankind. What is it, exactly? In its simplest term, it is an inflammation of the joints and it causes severe pains, as well as substantially reducing a person’s mobility.

It was with this in mind that Irish home care company Home Care Plus decided to create the below infographic about understanding the most common types of arthritis and identifying the remedies that could ease the condition. One of the myths the company hopes to dispel with the infographic is that arthritis only affects people of an elderly age. It is also prevalent amongst younger age groups, with more than 1,000 children in Ireland alone growing up with arthritis. Indeed, the average age of diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis is just 35. Sadly, there is no known scientific cure for arthritis, nor has it been formally established what causes the condition.

The infographic outlines five of the most common types of arthritis – osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, gout and lupus. Each of these is explained in a one-sentence brief, along with their suspected causes and symptoms. The good news for anyone inflicted by any of these conditions is that help is at hand. The first step is to consult a general practitioner for a medically assessed diagnosis and treatment. Aside from medically-prescribed remedies, you can also ease the pain by making positive changes to your diet, partaking in yoga or swimming to ease the inflamed joints, stretching after a prolonged period of sitting, and also by quitting smoking for those who do.

Living with arthritis is extraordinarily difficult, much more so than people without the condition could imagine. However, if an arthritis sufferer maintains a positive attitude and takes sensible steps in trying to reduce the pain it causes, their suffering will be greatly diminished. If even one person takes this advice on board, the infographic will have been so worthwhile.
