Many that read this blog and are interested in the quantified self will already understand just how important sleep is to our health. Even just anecdotally, when you don’t get enough of it you feel pretty dreadful and if that persists you can get genuinely unwell.

But what actually happens while you sleep? The lovely folks at Dreams have a ‘Sleep Matters Club’ (no, really…) and they’ve put together a handy infographic on exactly what happens to the body during the 8 recommended hours. Whether you’re an average Joe or a finely tuned athlete, your cycle is important for everything from muscle recovery after exercise to brain function.
